Sir,
This is regarding a series of reports in Star of Mysore about the pathetic condition of the fragile Chamundi Hill.
The Hill, the pride and identity of Mysuru, is on the brink of disaster due to excessive urbanisation and unscientific construction. Unfortunately, the Government continues to ignore the urgent warnings issued by environmentalists and experts.
Illegal constructions in the sensitive zones of the Hill have triggered severe ecological imbalance, creating a high risk of landslides.
Despite repeated warnings from geologists and conservationists, their technical advice to save the Hill has been ignored and left confined to paper.
What worsens the situation is the lack of political will, as a system driven by personal gain and commission rather than public interest continues to pave the way for a major natural disaster.
This plunder in the name of development is not just a threat to the natural beauty of Chamundi Hill, but a direct danger to the safety of all of Mysuru.
The Government should immediately declare Chamundi Hill a ‘Sensitive Zone’ based on expert reports. It must crack down on illegal constructions.
Politicians should stop focusing on vote banks and profits and show the responsibility required to preserve this heritage for future generations
To clear this dark cloud hanging over Chamundi Hill, it is not enough for activists alone to fight. Every citizen of Mysuru must raise their voice.
