Chamundi Vihar Stadium neglected: Official apathy

Sir,

Chamundi Vihar Stadium in Nazarbad is a very good stadium for athletes and sportspersons. However, the tragedy is that because of the negligence of the officials concerned, it has turned into a den of anti-social elements.

In many places the compound and fence around the stadium is broken and anyone can walk inside it without any hindrance. The miscreants who come in  the guise of playing have damaged the ground. As there is no proper lighting, the stadium is pitch dark in the evening which again encourages all kinds of illegal activities.

On one side of the stadium, hostels for boys and girls have been constructed and when the water tanks get filled no one even bothers to switch off the pump thus wasting precious water which keeps flowing for hours.

The scene inside the stadium is no different as it is filled with garbage, plastic glasses, paper cups and leftover food. The plastic-free calling of the Mysuru City Corporation and the Swachh Bharat campaign seems to have fallen on deaf ears here.

The Deputy Commissioner is the in-charge officer of this stadium. But one does not know how many times he has visited the place to inspect it. Even though the Government spends crores of rupees on sports, one does not know where the money is going.  Lots of money is given for security too but not a single security personnel is to be found in the stadium.

Above all one only hopes that incidents like the gutting of cars in Aero India Show in Bengaluru or the forest fire in Bandipur, does not occur here, as the whole place is surrounded by dry grass. Lot of sports activities take place here and thousands visit the stadium. Hence, the authorities concerned must immediately get the place cleared of dry grass to prevent any fire tragedy.

The DC and the Sports Department officials must immediately visit the stadium and inspect the place and take steps to see that the place is clean and there is enough security.
