Chandagalu suicide pact case: Nayakara Yuva Sene seeks probe by panel of High Court Judges

June 15, 2024

Mysore/Mysuru: Rajya Nayakara Yuva Sene has demanded an investigation by a High Court Judges Committee into the suicide pact of a family from Chandagalu village in K.R. Nagar taluk.

The family consumed poison at Talabetta near Male Mahadeshwara Hills in Chamarajanagar district on June 8, resulting in the deaths of a man and his daughter.

The family members had entered into the suicide pact after a youth allegedly blackmailed them, threatening to leak private videos of the minor girl in the family.

Addressing a press conference at Pathrakartara Bhavan in the city on Wednesday, Sene’s                                                                     State President Devaraj T. Katur criticised political parties for using the case for political gain instead of seeking justice for the affected family. He demanded the State Government ensure justice for the                                                                bereaved family.

Devaraj pointed out the failure of the K.R. Nagar Taluk Administration to prevent such a heinous crime and urged the State Government to take the case seriously.

He called for a thorough investigation by a Committee of High Court Judges and the arrest of those involved in the case. He warned of protests by Nayaka community members and various organisations if these demands were not met.

Devaraj also flayed the negligent attitude of the K.R. Nagar Police for not accepting the family’s complaint when they tried to lodge it, leading to their depression and subsequent suicide. He demanded that a case under the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act be filed against the suspended officers and that they be dismissed from their jobs.

He further demanded that the State Government provide Rs. 50 lakh compensation to the family members of the deceased.

Shivakumaraswamy, Udbur Somanna, Kaniyanahundi Siddu, Vajamangala Kumar and Nrupatunga were present at the press conference.
