April 18, 2017

With just a couple of months left for the Kannada Sahitya Sammelana, the Department of Kannada and Culture with the help of District Administration has been decking up the Kalamandira premises which will play host to various events.

The Kalamandira premises will soon have ‘Charcha Kuteera’ which is being built exclusively for the artistes. This apart, the Department has also planned to develop a Heritage Park at the premises.

Nirmithi Kendra has been entrusted the work of constructing the park which has already begun. The Charcha Kuteera, costing Rs. 4.10 lakh, is being constructed in an oval shape of 5ft below the ground level.

Around 50-60 people can organise a small event or hold discussions about plays and other programmes. The place can also be used to organise music programme, kavighosti and other such events.

The Department is also constructing a walkway leading the kuteera and also display ancient Kannada scriptures, sculptures and others.

The works on Mini Theatre is on the verge of completion with final works related to electrification and others being completed.

Speaking to Star of Mysore, Kannada and Culture Asst. Director H. Channappa said: “The works were delayed owing the technical reasons. Now, the Department has asked Nirmthi Kendra to complete the works as soon as possible after which the amount would be released to them.”

Talking about the Heritage Park, he said that the plan was in the initial stage and added that an estimate would be made and submitted to Deputy Commissioner for sanction and approval.
