A number of letters have appeared in Star of Mysore regarding rampant traffic violations in the city. What is intriguing is the silence on the part of the authorities concerned.
The cops and home guards are lax in their duties. They will always be busy on their mobile phones. Majority of the home guards are mere statues and never care for any traffic violations. These violators dare to prove that they can do it anywhere!
At Narayana Shastry road, Vinoba Road and Saraswathipuram 5th Cross, traffic is allowed only one-way. However, one can see traffic moving both ways, that too in front of the Police.
As a result, those who sincerely follow traffic rules are in trouble. The two-wheeler riders and auto drivers are the biggest violators. KSRTC bus drivers too lead the violation.
If shortage of Police personnel is the main reason, why not CCTV cameras be installed and based on the inputs, initiate strict action on the offenders?
We Indians are indisciplined to the core, always find alternatives to escape. This is evident from how they caution other violators about Police checks. I feel, home guards cannot substitute Traffic Police. At the most, they can only assist and support the Police force. Neither the district administration nor the people’s representatives seem to bother about this problem. It appears, there is no solution and people have to bear with it ! Hail, the Indian democracy !
