Chess is a traditional sport and has been played in our country for a long time. Mysuru has been producing talented players from time to time who have gone on to represent the country in various events. Mysuru’s upcoming chess player Prasiddhi Bhat has done everyone proud with her feats in the State and National level tournaments. Prasiddhi, taking part in the ongoing Karnataka State U-17 Girls Chess Championship 2018, being conducted by Mysore Chess Centre at Raghavendraswamy Mutt premises, Mysuru, from Aug.3 to 5, has emerged as the sole leader in the U-17 Girls section with six points from six rounds so far. With three rounds to go today, she stands a good chance to win the title. She is our ‘Star This Week.’
Prasiddhi, taking part in the U-17 State Girls Chess Tournament, has won all her six rounds played so far. With a current rating of 1209, Prasiddhi with her performance in this tournament so far, has added 74.4 Elo points to her tally. She has wins over R. Jhanavi (Bengaluru), Adya Premkumar (Bengaluru), Sharadhi Shastry (Mysuru), over higher Swara Lakshmi S. Nair (Bengaluru) and over higher rated Hemadri Sathish (Mysuru).
Prasiddhi represented Karnataka and took part in the Commonwealth Girls U-12 Chess Tournament held in Delhi recently and finished 27th with three points from seven rounds.
Prasiddhi also took part in the 32nd National U-13 Girls Chess Championship 2018 held at Ahmedabad and fared well. She secured five points from nine rounds.
Prasiddhi also took part in the 44th National Women Challengers Chess Championships from July 22 to 29 at the Kanteerava Sports Club, Mysuru, performed well and won the first prize in the Below 1300 rating category. Prasiddhi (Rating 1096) secured 5.5 points from eleven rounds and performed well in the tournament.
The 12-year-old is a student of Acharya Vidya Kula, Mysuru, and a product of Mysore Chess Centre, Mysuru. Encouraged by her parents Rajendra Prasad Bhat and Shree Vani Bhat, Prasiddhi has been faring well in the various tournaments. Prasiddhi is coached by Suresh and supported by M. Nagendra of Mysore Chess Centre.
