Chief Justice Hombegowda Memorial Football Tourney: Sapient College emerges champions

The Sapient College Football team — Chinmay, Akash, Ramshid, Yeshwanth, Gokul, Rishab Cariappa, C. Tarun, Mahinder, Samith Hegde, Bhuwan Rana, Steiner Wilchrist, S. Yeshwanth, Shreyas, Pranav, Sharan; Sachidanana, Yejwan, Dwijesh (Captain), Karthik Bharadwaj and Chandan — which emerged winners in the Chief Justice Hombegowda Memorial Gold Cup Inter-Collegiate Football Tournament - 2019, is seen receiving the trophy from Dr. C. Krishna, retd. Director, Department of Physical Education (DPE), University of Mysore (UoM). Also seen are Coach M. Kranthiraj, Principal K. Ganesh, Basudeva Somani FGC PED Sadashiva Bhat, In-Charge UoM DPE Director Dr. P. Krishnaiah, retd. UoM swimming coach M.P. Nabhiraj and MDFA Hon. Secretary Manjunath.

Sapient College, Mysuru, maintained a clean slate in the super league by winning all their matches and clinched the title in the Chief Justice Hombegowda Memorial University of Mysore (UoM) Inter-Collegiate Football Tournament jointly organised by Department of Physical Education, UoM and Physical Education Teachers Academy Trust at the University Grounds yesterday.

On the final day league matches, Sapient College beat St. Philomena’s College 2-1. Rishab (11th min) and Sachidananda (53rd min) scored for the winners while Rakshith (25th min), reduced the margin for the losers.

In another match, PES, Mandya registered a big 5-0 win over St. Joseph’s College, Chandan Kumar scored a hat-trick with three goals (15, 20, 50th minutes) for the winner. N. Girish (59th min) and Vishwas (56th min) were the other scorers.

PES College, Mandya finished runner-up. St. Philomena’s College, Mysuru, secured the third place, while St. Joseph’s FGC finished at the bottom of the league table in the fourth place.

The prizes to the winners were given away by Dr. C. Krishna, President, Physical Education Teachers Academy Trust of UoM.
