Chief Minister orders transfer of Prabuddha murder case to CID

June 25, 2024

Mysore/Mysuru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah yesterday transferred the 20-year-old BBA student R. Prabuddha murder case from the Subramanyapura Police to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

On May 15, Prabuddha was found dead with her throat and wrist slit and injuries on her head in the bathroom of her house in Padmanabhanagar, South Bengaluru, coming under the Subramanyapura Police limits. Subramanyapura Police, who had registered a case, had suspected suicide.

But the victim’s brother, who had noticed scratch marks on his friend’s face, had informed about it to the Police, who, after a couple of days, took a 15-year-old boy into custody and interrogated him. The boy had reportedly told the Police that Prabuddha had seen him stealing Rs. 2,000 and hence he had murdered her, cleaned the blood stains, went through the back door to the terrace and fled from the spot.

As the boy is the son of a bar owner, a thorough investigation was not done and he secured bail within 10 days.

Meanwhile, Prabuddha’s mother K.R. Sowmya, in her complaint to the Chief Minister, had stated that the Police had failed to collect CCTV footages and other clues thus neglecting the case. She had further stated that the Police, joining hands with the accused’s father were trying to close the case.

CM Siddharamaiah, based on the complaint from Sowmya, ordered transfer of the case to the CID.
