Childhood friend fatally stabs girl over marriage rejection

Mysuru: A 37-year-old youth allegedly stabbed his childhood friend after she refused to marry him. The injured girl later succumbed to injuries at a private hospital and the Police have arrested the accused.

The deceased girl is Shubha (name changed), a resident of Yelekere village in Pandavapura taluk, who was working at Vanitha Sadana in Krishnamurthypuram here as a Designer and the accused is Abhishek of the same village.

Abhishek, who stabbed Shubha, also assaulted her with a sickle and he himself admitted her to a private hospital before fleeing from the spot on Friday. Shubha succumbed to injuries at the hospital yesterday.

Lakshmipuram Police, who registered a case, arrested the accused within four hours and produced him before a Magistrate, who remanded him to judicial custody.

Abhishek and Shubha, who were residing in the same village, were classmates and childhood friends. It is learnt that Abhishek had begun to pester Shubha to marry him and was also forcing her parents to get their daughter married to him. But Shubha and her parents had refused the proposal of Abhishek.

On Friday, when Shubha was on her way from Krishnamurthypuram to take a bus to City Bus Stand, Abhishek, who confronted her, which led to a wordy duel between them following which Abhishek reportedly stabbed her with a knife and also assaulted her with a sickle, leading to her death, it is learnt.

Lakshmipuram Inspector B.S. Ravishankar, Sub-Inspectors C. Irshad and Ajay and staff C.L. Madhusudhan, Raju Maalagi, Kumar from CDR Division, arrested the accused.
