Bengaluru: Announcement of free entry caused stampede in front of M. Chinnaswamy Stadium during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) victory celebrations on June 4, said former Bengaluru City Police Commissioner B. Dayananda here yesterday.
Dayananda, who is currently placed under suspension, appeared before the Magistrate and recorded his statement with regard to stampede incident. He was also questioned about the permission granted to Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), RCB and DNA, the event management company, to organise the victory celebrations at the Stadium. Sources also said that Dayananda was also asked about the internal communication between the Police Dept. and the State Government.
It may be recalled that 11 people died and several were injured during the stampede in front of Stadium.
