Mysore/Mysuru: In some good news for the people of K.R. Nagar taluk, Srirama Co-operative Sugar Factory at Chunchanakatte in K.R. Nagar taluk of the district, which was shut down for years due to various reasons, is likely to resume functioning from June next year.
Co-operation Minister S.T. Somashekar, who is also Mysuru District In-charge Minister, held a meeting with concerned officials on Tuesday at Suvarna Soudha in Belagavi where the State Legislature session is going on.
The meeting after a prolonged deliberation, decided to propose the State Cabinet on the revival of the factory, by waiving off Rs. 8 crore registration fee of the successful tenderer, dropping the mortgage of 85 acres of factory land and to facilitate the tenderer for availing loans on guarantee of 125 acres of land belonging to the factory, among other plans.
K.R. Nagar MLA S.R. Mahesh wanted the Government to direct the DCC Bank which has advanced loan to the factory, to allow the factory to remit only the principal amount dues of Rs.1.36 crore and waive off interest. He appealed the Minister to ensure that all preparations regarding the re-start of the factory are completed by May and that the crushing of sugarcane commences from June next year.
Industries Minister Murugesh Nirani, who also owns Nirani Sugars, Minister for Textiles and Sugar Shankar Patil Munenakoppa, Periyapatna MLA K. Mahadev, Department of Industries and Commerce Principal Secretary Pankaj Kumar Pandey, Co-operation Department Principal Secretary Umashankar, Sugar Commissioner Shivanand Kalkeri, Srirama Sugar Factory Managing Director Vijaykumar and other officials attended the meeting.
