CII holds Zero Effect Zero Defect programme

Mysuru: The Zero Effect Zero Defect (ZED) initiative is in view of setting the global perspective of the Indian manufacturing as ZED quality goods, which will have the least impact on the environment, said Arjun Ranga, Chairman of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Mysuru Chapter.

Speaking at the inaugural function of a five-day ZED Capacity Building Programme for MSMEs recently, he said:   “We do not have a clear definition on Indian manufacturing in the global market like Japan or Germany for their excellent engineering skills and leadership in manufacturing. China has become low cost manufacturer in the World and 90 percent of manufacturing today happens in China.”

“ZED initiative is in the direction to set the global view of Indian manufacturing as ZED quality goods which will have the least impact on environment. What we create should be passed on to future generation, we are not here for today we are here for tomorrow that is the thought beyond this event,” he said.

Besides being benefited from the training, the participants should turn into evangelists in spreading the message about the benefits of ZED among their fellow industry brethren and also about the governments’ initiative to empower the MSME sector. MSMEs will be assessed and rated only on defined enabler and outcome parameters on operational level indicators.

“The organisational level indicators are also useful pointers towards implementing a ZED maturity assessment model at the operational level. It may include each MSME’s manufacturing capabilities,  design capabilities, quality/ environment/ safety assurance systems, people development and engagement systems, standardisation and measurement systems for quality and environment, learning and improvement systems and legal compliances on hygiene factors,” he explained.

ZED rated MSMEs are expected to have easy access to loans and be part of a credible and reliable vendor database for companies investing in India, he added.

The programme covered the scheme guidelines as well as explanation and guidance on how to implement the ZED Model and make best use of the subsidies available. The technical content of the programme would include fundamental guidance on quality, production, environmental and energy related tolls and techniques that can be easily adopted by MSMEs.

Over 35 MSMEs unit heads / quality/ production Heads from Mysuru participated.
