‘A pivotal step towards enhancing Mysuru’s economic prospects and positioning it as Bengaluru’s sister city’
Mysore/Mysuru: Mysore Airport Director J.R. Anoop has underscored the urgent necessity of expanding the Mysore Airport runway to facilitate the operation of long-haul flights, ultimately boosting tourism, trade, commerce and various economic development activities.
He was speaking at the EXCON Roadshow 2023 on the ‘Role of Infrastructure and Economy for Vision@2047, Sustainable Infrastructure’ organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Mysuru Zone, at Hotel Southern Star in city last evening. The event demonstrated a strong commitment to Karnataka’s transformative development under the CII theme “Towards a Competitive and Sustainable Karnataka@100: Growth, Inclusiveness, Globalisation, Building Trust.”
The Airport Director’s address highlighted the role of infrastructure in sustainable development and economic growth, focusing on the importance of air connectivity.
He mentioned that the infrastructure development and runway expansion at the Mysore Airport had faced delays due to the unavailability of land requested by the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
He pointed out that the State Government’s decision to develop Mysuru as a sister city of Bengaluru underscored the urgency of providing the required land for the Airport expansion. He stressed that improved air connectivity is essential to attract substantial investments for the city’s development.
Anoop specified that an additional 240 acres of land is needed for the Airport and the runway expansion to 2,750 metres is crucial to facilitate the operation of long-haul flights. This expansion, he argued, is a pivotal step toward enhancing Mysuru’s economic prospects and positioning it as a key player in regional development.
The EXCON Roadshow 2023 primarily focused on promoting industrial growth, generating employment, accelerating infrastructure and innovation ‘Beyond Bengaluru – Focusing Mysuru.’
The event aimed to strengthen collaboration between Government and industry, fostering a conducive environment for socio-economic growth across the State. Emphasising the demand for efficient construction, the key message underscored the importance of mechanisation in meeting contemporary construction speed requirements.
The programme witnessed the participation of various Government officials, including Joint Director of District Industries Centre (DIC), Mysuru, T. Dinesh, Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India (CREDAI), National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO) and diverse industry members.
Chairman of CII Mysuru Sam Cherian underlined the significance of the event in the pursuit of a more competitive and sustainable Karnataka, acknowledging the crucial role of awareness and collaboration in achieving growth.
Vice-President – Marketing, Schwing Stetter (India) Pvt. Ltd. E.L. Kiran Babu highlighted the private sector’s role in driving innovation and sustainable practices in infrastructure development.
Divisional Railway Manager of Mysuru Shilpi Agarwal emphasised the significance of Railway infrastructure and the introduction of the Gati Shakti unit in Mysuru, playing a vital role in industrial growth.
Managing Partner of Yesh Developers Manoj Lodha, President of CREDAI Mysuru Srihari Dwarakanath, NAREDCO Mysuru President V.C. Ravi Kumar, Chairman of Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) Mysuru Chapter Prof. D.S. Ramakrishna Rao, Vice-Chairman of CII Mysuru Eswara Rao and others were present.
