Mysuru: The Mysuru District Film Festival (MyDFF) organised as part of Dasara is drawing good crowds to the theatres, as this is the first time that the selected films are being screened in two multiplex theatres — DRC and Inox.

Dasara Film Festival Sub-Committee Special Officer and Additional Deputy Commissioner T. Yogesh said that the festival is proving a success as the movies are being shown in multiplexes.

The audience are enjoying the movies and involved in discussion and debates. On Sept.22,  the movie ‘Aake,’ elicited good response. Veteran film actor Sundar Raj of the movie Liftman-fame, visited DRC and interacted with the audience.

Similarly on Sept.23, the movie ‘Kirik Party,’ which had won the hearts of the youth, drew a huge audience. It was successful in brining the actors, technicians and audience on a single platform. Yesterday, Amaravathi film Director B.M. Giriraj was present, which was a unique experience for the viewers.

Well-known film Director Suresh Heblikar’s movie ‘Mana Manthana,’ screened in Inox on Sept. 22 saw a full house. Later, there was a lively interaction between the Director and the audience. The discussion veered around direction and dialogues in the movie. The movies on the 100 years of Russian Revolution were also screened.

The cinema lovers who were used to watching festival films on small screens earlier, were now delighted to see them for the first time on big screen, said Yogesh.

Manjunath, a resident of Garudachar Layout in Vijayanagar and his wife Nirupama, told Star of Mysore, “We have paid just Rs. 300 each and watch the movies of our choice every day. At that price, it is a steal and we are watching some of the best movies in other languages including English ones.”

Film show at Central Jail

Yesterday the movie ‘Rama Rama Re’ was screened at the Mysuru Central Jail at 4 pm, said Film Festival Artistic Director Manu. This is one of the best movies in Kannada cinema, made by talented youths. The movie talks about the feelings and inner thoughts of two young minds. The cast of the movie first visited DRC and later the Central Jail, he said. This is a new experiment in film festivals and it is going to be the future trend, he said.

DRC owner Vaishali said that the film festival is a success. The Kannada movie goers are watching the films with great interest. The successful film ‘Kirik Party,’ saw a very good response and this has further kindled the interest of the film festival.

Mahouts, Kavadis watch ‘Raajakumara’

The Mahouts and Kavadis and their families, who are busy tending to Dasara elephants, took time off yesterday to watch a movie and were all suitably impressed.

The hardworking Mahouts and Kavadis who sit on the tall elephants and watch the world pass by, yesterday watched the movie for the first time in air conditioned comfort at DRC along with their family members. The movie was Puneeth Rajkumar starrer ‘Raajakumara.’

“We are the tribals from Hadis and we used to watch the movies in tent theatres. This is the first time we are watching a movie in a big theatre. Added to this, we are very fond of watching movies of thespian Dr. Rajkumar and his children. We are grateful to the Deputy Commissioner for giving us an opportunity to watch a film in such surroundings,” they said.

The Dasara Film Festival is on till Sept. 28. Interested film aficionados can register at Inox theatre, said a member of the Film Festival Sub-Committee.
