Cinerama’19: National Short Film Fest winners

Mysuru: Renowned Kannada Film Director and Producer B. Suresha inaugurated Cinerama ’19, the National-level Short Film Festival, organised by Department of Visual Communication recently at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Mysuru Campus.

In his inaugural address, he traced the growth of Kannada cinema industry and recalled and compared the movies of his early days in the industry. He spoke at length on the importance of having clarity of thought about the story one is trying to convey, and the importance of knowing one’s target audience as a film-maker.

Suresha also suggested that Cinema is a large ocean and the film-makers need to acquire the skills to swim in it. Citing a number of examples, he spoke of how even a small budget film can make crores in the box office.

In a 90-minute interactive session which followed, he shared details about the nuances of film-making, which was very informative and rewarding for the students.

Suresha also inaugurated “PixelKraft” exhibition of Graphic and Portfolio works of the final year students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Actress Aindrita Ray, who was the chief guest at the valedictory function, gave away the awards to the winners of Cinerama ’19. The Jury members S. Ravi Shankar, Film-maker and Music Director and Dr. B. Shreekantachar, Producer I, EMMRC, University of Mysore, were felicitated on the occasion.

Top three Short Films: 1st place – BINDI (Director – Nikhil Sankar) Kochi; 2nd place – ZITA (Director – Kevin Karippery) Mumbai; 3rd place –  UNARTHAL (Director – Balaji SBR) Coimbatore.

Best Titles (Special Category Awards): Best Editor – Aswin for the film UNARTHAL; Best Director – Nikhil Sankar for BINDI; Best Cinematographer – Sunil Karthikeyan for ZITA; Best Performer – Jithin Babu for the film POTHAYAN.
