The students of Acharya Vidya Kula, Mysuru, have excelled in Chess Tournaments held recently.

In the Karnataka State School Chess Championship 2019 sponsored by Ramaiah Memorial Hospital held at Bengaluru, M.N. Spurthi has secured the II place and Nithyashree Lokesha has secured the IV place in the U-12 Girls category and Prasiddhi Bhat has secured the IV place in the U-14 girls category.

In the Chess Tournament conducted by First Move Trust in Mysuru, Prasiddhi Bhat secured the I place and M.N. Spurthi secured the IV place in the U-14 Girls category and Nithyashree Lokesha secured the I place in the U-17 category.

Dhatri Umesh and Diya Umesh of Mysuru bagged top prizes.

Sisters Shine

Dhatri Umesh and Diya Umesh of Mysuru bagged top prizes in OCA – Dr. Raja Ramanna Inter-School Chess Tournament organised by Old Cottonians Association (OCA) of Bishop Cotton School, Bengaluru, in association with United Karnataka Chess Association (UKCA), at Bishop Cotton School in Bengaluru recently.

The Tournament was open to students from 1st Standard to 12th Standard in five categories for both boys and girls.

Dhatri and Diya got first prize in Category A and Category C respectively.

Dhatri, who is two times State runner-up won 5 out of 7 rounds and became the Champion. Diya (7 years) lost the first round and bounced back immediately by recording 6 victories back to back. She won against Illon from Auromirra International School in the last round and emerged as Champion.

In all, 400 participants from 160 schools across the State participated in the Tournament.

Daughters of Umesh and Brunda Umesh of Mysuru, the duo are the students of National Public School, Mysuru and are trained at Mysore Chess Centre.
