Mysuru: In a tragic incident, a city cloth merchant was killed when he slipped while boarding a train and came under its wheels at Yadgir town in North Karnataka last night.

The deceased has been identified as Sushil Lunkar (42), son of late Dhanraj Lunkar and a resident of Ittigegud.

Sushil Lunkar, along with his family members and relatives, had gone to Mumbai to attend a wedding five days ago. Sushil was returning from Mumbai by Udyan Express when he alighted from the train at Yadgir Station to fill his water bottle at about 9 pm.

As the train started moving after a brief halt, Sushil rushed back and attempted to board the train holding the water bottle in his hand, when he slipped and fell.

Sushil, who came under the wheels of the moving train, died at the spot, it is learnt. His body was handed over to his family members after the conduct of post-mortem at Yadgir this morning. The Yadgir Railway Police have registered a case. His last rites will be performed at the foot of Chamundi Hill in city at 10 am tomorrow (June 5), according to family sources.

Sushil is survived by his mother, wife Priyanka, son Pakshal, daughter Himani and a host of relatives and friends. He was a Committee Member of S.S. Jain Yuva Sanghtan and past President of JCI Mysore Royal City.
