Mysore/Mysuru: Maintaining that Law itself is a religion, VI Additional Civil Judge of JMFC Court, Mysuru, Lakshmi Bai said it is important for the society to move forward by treading the path of this religion, meaning Law.
She was speaking as the chief guest at the Legal Awareness programme on the topic ‘Atrocities on Women’ organised jointly by Vidyavardhaka First Grade College, NSS Unit of University of Mysore (UoM) and District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Mysuru, as part of NALSA’s (National Legal Services Authority) Pan India Legal Awareness and Out Reach Programme, at Vidyavardhaka First Grade College on Sheshadri Iyer Road here yesterday.
Observing that our country is known for respecting women since ancient times, Judge Lakshmi Bai regretted that, however, in the current times, atrocities on women are increasing by the day, which is alarming.
Pointing out that it has been difficult to ascertain the exact or specific reasons for rising atrocities, she noted that it is important for the society to take immediate measures for preventing the attacks, assaults and atrocities against women.
Emphasising on the role of teachers in taking the society forward on the right path by putting an end to all atrocities and domestic conflicts, she said that this may be possible if only everyone imbibe a sense of feeling that every woman is their own family member.
Contending that though there are many Laws to protect women, Judge Lakshmi Bai opined it is also important that women should learn the art of self-defence.

At SBRR Mahajana FGC
“For the well-being of a family, society and in the making of a nation every citizen should have legal awareness along with strong moral sense,” opined Senior Civil Judge, K. Vidya.
She was speaking at a programme organised by NSS,UoM, Mysuru, NSS units of SBRR Mahajana First Grade College, Mysuru, in association with Mysore District Legal Service Authority, as part of Amrit Mahotsav@75 under the banner NALSA Pan India Awareness and Out Reach Programme.
Speaking on the topic ‘Free Legal Aid and Lok Adalat,’ Judge Vidya said that free legal aid is available for citizens in various instances pertaining to atrocities on women, natural calamities and called upon the citizens to avail the facility without any fear or hesitation. Further, the speaker added that youth should have humane values, strong morale, and an awareness of the rich cultural past of the nation.
Through an anecdote, Vidya pointed out that aged parents are driven to Old Age Homes uncared and neglected by their children and said it is the moral responsibility of the youth to take care of their aged parents.
Presiding over the programme, Principal Dr. B.R. Jayakumari said today man is lost in the rat race of competition, increasingly becoming selfish, self-centred and losing values like compassion, caring etc. As a result, relationships are destroyed and there is an increase in the crime rate in the society. Therefore, youth should develop strong morals and ethics, she added.
NSS Programme Officer, Dr. G. Doddarasaih welcomed. Siddaraju proposed a vote of thanks. Student S.L. Manogna rendered the invocation. Rajik Rasheed was the Master of Ceremony. The programme was attended by NSS volunteers, students and staff.
