Mysuru: The newly-elected Mayor Pushpalatha Jagannath of the Congress was felicitated at a programme organised by the City Congress unit at Congress Bhavan near the City Railway Station recently.
Speaking on the occasion, former K.R. MLA M.K. Somashekar said that the previous Congress government had sanctioned Rs. 3,000 crore for development of the city and Mysuru witnessed development works like never before when Siddharamaiah was the CM.
Pointing out that the new Mayor has the responsibility of completing the works initiated by the previous Congress government, the former MLA regretted that the Congress had to lose power due to lack of publicity of various welfare schemes launched by it.
Accusing the city BJP MLAs of taking credit for welfare works launched by the Congress government, he asked the Mayor to ensure that the Opposition party in the MCC does not take credit for the good works done by the Congress, which has now regained power in the MCC after a gap of over five years.
Former MP C.H. Vijayashankar, in his address, said that it was a good development that Pushpalatha who has actively engaged herself in organising the Congress, has become the Mayor now. Noting that the city has over 12 lakh population, he said that the responsibility of the new Mayor is more, as the city is the cultural capital of the State. He suggested the Mayor to focus more on boosting tourism and key sectors such as education, health, Industries and Dasara.
Former MLA Vasu, City Congress President R. Murthy, former Minister M.S. Athmananda, former Mayors T.B. Chikkanna, Pushpalatha Chikkanna and Modamani, leaders Bank Puttaswamy, Eshwar Chakkadi and others were present.
