City karateka for Natl. Championship

Deia Urs, 2nd PUC student at VVS GJPU College, Kuvempunagar, Mysuru, secured gold medal at the State-level Karate Championships organised by Akhila Karnataka Sports Karate Association (AKSKA) at VV Convention Hall in Bengaluru recently.

More than 300 karatekas from all over Karnataka took part in the Championship, which was divided into 6 Kata and 27 Kumite (male and female) categories.

In the finals of the U-21 female individual kata category, Deia defeated Malashree of Davanagere 5-0 to clinch Gold. Deia will be representing the Karnataka State in the Female Individual Kata at the Karate Association of India Cadet, Junior and U-21 Nationals to be held from Jan.28 to 31 at J.J. Indoor Stadium, Kilpauk, Chennai.

Deia Urs, a Bronze Medallist at the recently held APSKF Championships in Jakarta, Indonesia, practice under Kyoshi C.S. Arun Machiah and Kyoshi E.S. Kumar.

She is the daughter of Roopa Urs and is trained by her father B.S. Srinath Urs, an accredited and certified KAI National Coach.

Along with Deia, gold medal winning city karatekas Asmi Shivakumar (U-21, female – 50 kg), D. Vinay (U-21, male – 60 Kg) and Jay Mehta (Cadet, male +70 Kg) will also be representing the State in the Kumite Categories.
