City needs more Traffic Police

Sir,

Mysuru city appears to be facing a shortage of Traffic Police personnel, raising concerns over traffic management and road safety. The role of Traffic Police goes beyond issuing fines. They regulate traffic, manage parking, enforce speed limits and ensure the smooth movement of vehicles, particularly at busy junctions.

However, residents say Traffic Police presence is limited in several parts of the city. They are more visible on major roads and at select junctions where enforcement drives are carried out, raising concerns about the monitoring of traffic signals, parking violations and speeding across the city.

Busy traffic signals, in particular, need regular monitoring to prevent violations, ease congestion and ensure the safety of pedestrians and other road users.

Increasing the workload of the existing personnel may not be enough to address the problem. Mysuru needs adequate manpower and a planned deployment system to ensure effective traffic regulation across the city.

Traffic Police are essential to maintaining road discipline and protecting road users. The authorities concerned should assess the existing strength of the force and consider deploying more personnel at busy junctions and other key locations. A stronger Police presence and better traffic management would help make Mysuru’s roads safer and less congested.
