Mysuru: The Mysuru City Police have introduced a unique tradition — bidding farewell not just to retiring colleagues but also to vehicles that have served them for years.
In a heartfelt gesture, the personnel of Devaraja Police Station gave an emotional send-off to their Garuda patrol vehicle, which had been in service for 15 years. Draped in a grand garland and honoured with rituals, the vehicle was treated with the same reverence as a retiring officer.
The moment was especially poignant for the driver, who had spent years patrolling the city in it. Recalling countless operations and night patrols, officers paid their respects before parting ways.
Inspector K.R. Raghu, Sub-Inspectors Jaikeerthi and Prabhu, along with other Police personnel, participated in the farewell ceremony. The decommissioning of vehicles that were in service for more than 15 years comes as part of efforts to reduce air pollution and enhance road safety.
Across Mysuru, nearly 40 Garuda vehicles have been phased out as they complete their 15-year service limit. However, new replacements are set to hit the roads soon, ensuring that the city’s law enforcement remains as vigilant as ever.
