International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking
Mysuru: As part of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, City Police took out an awareness rally on the ill effects of drugs this morning.
The awareness rally was flagged off in front of Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple near the North Gate of Mysore Palace by Kannada actor Vinay Rajkumar.
In his address, he said that drugs pose danger to everyone especially youths, who are getting addicted to it.
He called upon everyone to stay away from drugs to lead a healthy life besides urging public to inform the Police if they come across anyone selling or consuming drugs.
The actor lauded the Police Department for conducting awareness rally and providing information about the ill effects of drugs.
Over 1,000 people including Police officers and staff, college students and nursing students, holding placards with messages such as ‘Say no to drugs,’ ‘Drugs destroy life,’ ‘Shun drugs to lead a healthy life’ etc., took out the rally which passed via Albert Victor Road, KR Circle, Sayyaji Rao Road, Government Ayurveda Hospital Circle, Irwin Road, Nehru Circle, Ashoka Road and Town Hall, before culminating at the starting point.

City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar, DCP (Law and Order) Dr. Harsha Priyamvada, DCP (Crime and Traffic) K.S. Sundar Raj and others were present.
Vijayanagar Police take out awareness rally
Meanwhile, Vijayanagar Police took out an awareness rally in its jurisdiction yesterday.
Speaking on the occasion, Vijayanagar Sub-Division ACP Raviprasad said that consuming drugs will have adverse effect on the person’s health, education and family besides posing serious effect on the society which will also make way for anti-social activities.
He called upon the people especially youths to be aware of the ill effects of consuming drugs, stay away from it and lead a disciplined life.
Pointing out that this week is being observed as Anti Drugs Week – 2026, the ACP said that Vijayanagar Police will be creating awareness on drug abuse among the public, at schools and colleges by conducting various programmes.
Administrative Officer of Vijayanagar’s Sri Yoganarasimhaswamy Temple N. Srinivas, Vijayanagar Inspector Lava, Metagalli Inspector Arun Kumar, Saraswathipuram Police Station’s Ravikiran, Hebbal Police Station’s Lakshmikanth, Police personnel and students were present.
MLA Tanveer Sait flags off awareness rally
The Mysore District Chemists and Druggists Welfare Association (MDCDWA), in association with Food Safety and Drug Administration Department, JSS College of Pharmacy, Farooqia College of Pharmacy, Majestic Primary and High School and Victory Charitable Trust, had also organised an awareness rally at Udayagiri in city yesterday.
The rally, comprising students, teachers, pharmacists, healthcare professionals and members of the public was flagged off by MLA Tanveer Sait at Udayagiri Circle which passed on prominent roads before culminating at Majestic School in Udayagiri.
Speaking on the occasion, Udayagiri Inspector S. Nagesh highlighted the importance of creating awareness on the harmful consequences of drug abuse.
He emphasised that drug addiction can adversely affect the health, education, family life and future of young people. He urged students, parents, teachers and members of the public to remain vigilant, report suspicious drug-related activities and work together with law-enforcement agencies to build a safer, healthier and drug-free society.
