City road named after former MP N. Rachaiah

Mysore/Mysuru: As a tribute to the contributions of former Lok Sabha MP N. Rachaiah, the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has named the stretch of the road leading from Teresian College Circle at Siddarthanagar to Alanahalli Gate on T. Narasipur Road, as N. Rachaiah Road.

NR MLA Tanveer Sait unveiled the new nameboard of the road that reads ‘Dalita Dhwani N. Rachaiah Road’ at a programme organised by the MCC at Teresian College Circle yesterday.

Speaking on the occasion, Tanveer Sait said that N. Rachaiah, who belonged to Dalit community, always strived for the upliftment of oppressed and other weaker sections of  the society.

Pointing out that Rachiah had a lot of social concern, he said that the late leader is a model for leaders of the present generation. He was happy that a prominent road of the city has been named after N. Rachaiah, Tanveer Sait added.

MLC R. Dharmasena, who is also the son of N. Rachaiah, said that establishment of N. Rachaiah Chair in University of Mysore (UoM), sanctioning of N. Rachaiah Memorial Bhavan at T. Narasipur, publication of a book on Rachaiah by the Legislative Assembly and now the naming of road after the late leader, are all the honours that have come in recognition of his services to the society.

Corporator Rajani Annaiah, former Deputy Mayor Sridhar, leaders Annaiah, M.A. Kamala, Anantharamu, Somashekar, Kalaiah and others were present.
