Sports lovers in city celebrated India’s achievement at Tokyo Games 2020, which was held between July 23 and Aug. 8, 2021, by cutting cake yesterday.
India won seven medals at Olympics this year including first-ever gold medal in athletics.
The Department of Physical Education (DPE) of University of Mysore (UoM), in association with Mysore District Athletic Association (MDAA), UoM Sports Alumni Association, has organised the celebration at Oval Grounds in city.
Speaking on the occasion, retired DPE Director of UoM, Dr. C. Krishna, said: “This is a historical moment for India, as the country won its first gold medal in athletics. This win has increased the pride of our nation. Gold medal winner Neeraj Chopra who is serving in Indian Army has achieved this through hard work and dedication. Young sports persons should consider Neeraj Chopra as their role model and achieve big in the sports field,” he added.
UoM DPE Director (in-Charge) Dr. P. Krishnaiah, MDAA Senior Vice-President B.L. Jagadish, Vice-Presidents Abhilash Nair and C.K. Muralidharan, Secretary Srikanth, Treasurer Umesh, and others were present.
