City students excel in “Young Inventors Challenge”

Mysore/Mysuru: Two teams from city-based Excel Public School (EPS) received Silver Award at the “Young Inventors Challenge (YIC) – Special Edition 2020”, an international competition for high school students, organised by the Association of Science Technology and Innovation (ASTI), Malaysia, working towards empowering young generation’s interest in science through hands-on experiences.

Of the total 122 teams from nine countries shortlisted for final round, the EPS Teams were the only ones from India. The winners of this eight-month-long event (May to Dec. 2020)   were declared in an online awards ceremony on Dec. 5. The YIC process included team formation, choosing the invention concept, researching and initiating the project, and preparing a proposal document.

Teams that were shortlisted underwent training on Sustainable Development Goals, Criteria for Invention Prototype, and so on. Based on these training, teams developed their invention and presented it to the expert panel through the viva session.

Two winning teams from India, represented by students of Excel Public School, are “Le Cinq” comprising K.V. Arun Balan, Arnav Ajay Kulkarni, Siddhanth Pingili, K. Tejas Sai, and Samarth Sastry of grade 8 and “Virtuous Aura” comprising Divijaa Arjun, Aditi Bhat, Akanksha Poovaiah and Eshanya Parvathi of grade 9.
