City woman dies after falling from train in Bengaluru

Mysuru:  A woman from city, who had been to Bengaluru, died after falling from a train at the Railway Station in Bengaluru yesterday.

The deceased has been identified as Mary Fathima (63), wife of Henry and a resident of Vijayanagar 1st Stage in city.

Mary’s son, who is working in Maldives, had come to city to attend the funeral of a relative and yesterday, Mary had accompanied her son   to Bengaluru as he was leaving for Maldives.

After seeing off her son at the airport, Mary went to her daughter’s place in Shanthinagar and her son-in-law dropped her to the Railway Station.

Mary, who was waiting in the platform to catch the 3.20 pm train to Mysuru, saw the 3 pm train and assuming that the train was leaving to Mysuru ran to board the moving train. As the train had gained speed, Mary slipped and fell on the platform resulting in her sustaining severe head injuries and breathing her last on the spot.

The Railway Police, who have registered a case in this regard, shifted the body to Victoria Hospital, where post-mortem was conducted and the body was handed over to her family members.

Eyes donated: Mary’s family members have donated her eyes to Victoria Hospital.

Mary’s body was brought to Mysuru late last night and the funeral will be held at Dornahalli in K.R. Nagar taluk today.
