City youth meets watery grave at Nanjangud

Mysuru: A 33-year-old youth from city, who had been to Nanjangud along with five others yesterday, was drowned after he was caught in the slush of the river and unable to come out.

The deceased youth is Vinod, a resident of K.G. Koppal and an employee of SVG’s Placement Centre in city.

Vinod, along with Vishwanath Seshachala, Managing Trustee of SVG’s Vishwaprajna PU College on Dattagalli Ring Road, Shruthi Seshachala, Mohan Kumar Shastri, Dean of SVG’s Vishwaprajna PU College, Kavitha and one more person left Mysuru at about 3 pm yesterday to visit a Jain temple near Nanjangud on the occasion of Vishwanath’s birthday. But they stopped near the bridge before Nanjangud and Vinod and Mohan Kumar ventured into  the water for a swim. It is learnt that both Mohan and Vinod did not swimming.

Meanwhile, Vinod who ventured a little further was caught in the slush and was struggling to free himself but in vain and was reportedly drowned. Mohan, who tried to rescue Vinod, was also caught in the slush, but was saved by Vishwanath who threw his belt and Shruthi’s veil thus pulling Mohan to safety.

Meanwhile, Nanjangud Rural Police Inspector Puneeth and staff, who rushed to the spot, fished out the body of Vinod, conducted mahazar and shifted the body to Nanjangud General Hospital mortuary, where post-mortem was conducted yesterday and the body was handed over to his family members. A case has been registered at Nanjangud Rural Police Station in this regard.
