City’s Dhruthi loses in semi- finals

Mysuru-based women’s tennis player Dhruthi T. Venugopal representing ONGC lost in the semi-finals in the women’s singles event to Sai Samhitha of ONGC 5-8 in the Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) Inter-unit Tennis Tournament held at Numaligarh, Assam, yesterday.

Nidhi Chilumula clinched the women’s title for Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) with a 4-2, 4-2 victory over Sai Samhitha of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) in the final.

Nidhi had earlier negotiated a tough semifinal against teammate and Olympian Prarthana Thombare 8-7(5). Vishnu Vardhan beat Yuki Bhambri 6-2, 6-1 and clinched the men’s singles title. The women’s team title was clinched by Indian Oil as Nidhi Chilumula and Prarthana Thombare won their singles matches against Sai Samhitha and Dhruthi Venugopal of ONGC.
