City’s Diya Bheemaiah wins bronze medal

Mysuru, Oct. 29- City’s B. Diya Bheemaiah, who is one of the top ranked badminton players in the State, won the bronze medal in doubles category at the All India Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament held at Madurai from Oct. 22 to 29.

Partnering with Baruni Paraswal of Haryana, the duo lost in the semi finals to A. Ananya and Anjana Manikandan of Andhra Pradesh in a close encounter 14-21, 21 -18, 23-25.

A II PUC student of Vidhyaashram College in city, Diya is the daughter of Boppanda B. Bheemaiah and K.K. Kusuma Bheemaiah couple. Diya trains under coach Arun Pemmaiah at Sports Park, Mysuru.

Her father, Boppanda B. Bheemaiah, is also a badminton coach, while her mother, K.K. Kusuma (Kambiranda), a former international athlete, now works as a fitness coach.
