ATF 14 & Under Grade A (South Asia) Tennis Tournament
Mysuru: Mysuru tennis prodigy Padmapriya Ramesh Kumar continued her winning spree by securing the doubles title at ATF 14 & Under Grade A (South Asia) tennis tournament held at Hyderabad recently.
In the finals, the duo of Padmapriya and Polypetch Daungkhiaw (Thailand) beat Krishika Gautam (Karnataka) and Parinitha Kutty Vattaprambil (Andhra Pradesh) pair in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 to lift the trophy.
Meanwhile, Padmapriya also emerged runner-up in singles tournament. In the finals, she lost against Zoha Qureshi (Telangana) with a score of 7-5, 7-6.
In the second round, Padmapriya overcame Anandita Sarker 6-1, 6-0 and defeated Shaurya Patil 6-4, 6-3 in the third round. She defeated Diya Ravikumar 6-3, 6-0 in the quarter finals and Parinitha Kuttu Vatraprambil 6-2, 6-1 in the semi-finals before losing the finals to Zoha Qureshi.
Daughter of Dr. P. Ramesh Kumar, Chief Conservator of Forests (Project Tiger), Mysuru and Dr. Malathi Priya, Chief Conservator of Forests (Chamarajanagar Circle), Padmapriya trains under Coach Raghuveer Ponnuswamy, Pawan and Sagar (fitness coach) in Mysuru. She is a Class 9 student at Excel Public School in city.
Padmapriya is currently ranked No.2 in Asian ranking and ranked No. 1 in India U-14 girls category. She is one among the six girls from Asia to be selected for ‘Team to Europe’. Padmapriya will leaving for France on July 9 and will compete in four European tournaments to be held in France, Germany and Belgium. Later, she will be representing in the Indian U-14 team at the ITF World Championships to be held Czech Republic from Aug. 3 to 8.
