City’s Prof. P.V. Nanjaraj Urs to receive State Devaraj Urs Award

Mysuru: City-based Historian Prof. P.V. Nanjaraj Urs has been selected for the prestigious State-level D. Devaraj Urs Award (2026-27) in recognition of his contribution to propagation of late former Chief Minister D. Devaraj Urs’ social reforms and principles.

Announcing this while speaking to presspersons at Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru on Tuesday, Kannada and Culture Minister Shivaraj Tangadagi said that the name of Prof. Nanjaraj Urs was recommended by a committee headed by former Backward Classes Commission Chairman Dr. C.S. Dwarakanath. The award carries a cash prize of Rs.5 lakh and a citation, he pointed out.

Prof. Urs will be conferred the award by Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar during D. Devaraj Urs’ 111th birth anniversary programme to take place at Vidhana Soudha on Aug. 20 at 11 am.

Prof. P.V. Nanjaraj Urs, who graduated from University of Mysore (UoM) in 1957, got his M.A. degree from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, in 1959  and Doctorate degree from UoM in  1973. He later served as a faculty of UoM for over three decades. He has many works on social and political history to his credit.
