Mysuru: City’s tennis prodigy Padmapriya Ramesh Kumar will be touring France, Germany and Belgium as part of ‘GSPDP/ITF/ATF 14&U Team to Europe 2026’ event, sponsored by Asian Tennis Federation (ATF).
A total of 12 players including 6 boys and 6 girls have been selected for this tour based on their Asian Rankings. Out of the 12 players, three players (2 girls and 1 boy) are from India and all are from Karnataka.
The team will be playing four tournaments in Europe – Open Stade Francais, Paris; Tennis Europe U-14 d’Annect, France; Int. Deutsche Tennis meisterschaften Dueren, Germany and Antwerp Young Champions Cup at Wilrijk in Belgium. Currently, Padmapriya is playing in Paris.
She has won the first round (Round of 64) against Egyptian girl and entered the 2nd round (Round of 32) and will be playing against French girl.
Meanwhile at the end of Europe Tour, Padmapriya will be representing Indian U-14 Girls team at ITF World Juniors Tennis Tournament Finals at Prostejov, Czech Republic. Totally, 16 boys and 16 girls U-14 teams from all over the world have qualified for the tournament. It is after a gap of 12 years the Indian Girls U-14 team has qualified.
Daughter of Dr. P. Ramesh Kumar, Chief Conservator of Forests (Project Tiger), Mysuru and Dr. Malathi Priya, Chief Conservator of Forests (Chamarajanagar Circle), Padmapriya trains under Coach Raghuveer Ponnuswamy, Pawan and Sagar (fitness coach) in Mysuru. She is a Class 9 student at Excel Public School in city.
