Civic body collects Rs.101 crore tax in five months

Mysore/Mysuru: Stating that the MCC has so far collected Rs.101 crore property tax and other taxes this year in the five month period from Apr.1 to Sept.1, Gurudatta Hegde said that the MCC has set tax collection target of Rs.271 crore this fiscal year.

Replying to a question by BJP member B.V. Manjunath on the reasons for bills pending in respect of the works carried out the Government’s 24.10 and 7.25 percent grant, the Commissioner said that the Government is yet to release funds under these accounts due to COVID-19 crisis.

Hegde further said that the Government is yet to release Rs.5 crore for Dasara works taken up in 2018.

Mayor Tasneem appealed all the Corporators to extend their full co-operation for the MCC’s property tax collection drive, aimed at collecting tax from defaulting property owners from near their doorstep.

The Corporators promised full support for the drive.  BJP member Shivakumar wanted the civic body to set a specific target for all Zonal Offices as this action will help in collecting most of pending  tax dues.

Deputy Mayor C. Sridhar, MCC Additional Commissioner N.M. Shashikumar, Opposition Leader M.U. Subbaiah and other Corporators and officials were present.
