Mysuru: As part of ‘Puneet Sagar Abhiyan’ launched by the National Cadet Corps (NCC) to clean the seashores, beaches, ponds and lakes of plastic and other waste materials, members of the NCC Alumni Association of Mysore Group participated in an event to clean the Kukkarahalli Lake area on Sunday, Apr. 3.
The campaign aims to increase awareness about the importance of keeping the seashores free from plastic waste across the country.
A total of five officers, 7 PI, 28 members of the Alumni Association and 60 cadets took part in the campaign. The team cleaned the area of the Lake and surrounding areas and collected one quintal of plastic waste.
This is the first event of its kind where only the alumni members who are presently employed in various fields in the society including doctors, engineers, businessmen and entrepreneurs participated.
The Association plans to conduct many such events in the future which will go a long way in influencing society to take up such causes and also ensure they keep the water bodies and areas around near and clean.
Apart from physically cleaning the water bodies, the cadets have also taken up mass awareness campaigns to educate the people regarding the cleanliness of water bodies, the harmful effects of plastic use and the damage plastic is doing to our natural resources.
The members present included Dr. Chandrashekhar, Dr. Sushma Krishnamurty, Pramod, B.R. Rajesh, Purnima, Anand, Mithun and several others.
