Sir,
The picture shows food carts on one side and patrons’ vehicles parked on either side of New Kalidasa Road in Vijayanagar 1st Stage. Over the past year, street food carts have steadily taken over the stretch of New Kalidasa Road from De.Ja. Gow Circle to General K.S. Thimayya Road intersection in Vijayanagar 1st Stage.
On a recent count, as many as 37 carts were operating along this 700-metre stretch! Most are concentrated between De.Ja.Gow Circle and Kangaroo Care Hospital. While the carts themselves occupy the footpath, their patrons spill onto the road shoulders, leaving very little space for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.
Pedestrians are forced onto the carriageway, while cyclists and two-wheeler riders are left navigating dangerously through congested traffic. What was once a wide and accessible road has effectively shrunk to less than half its usable width.
The situation is especially difficult near De.Ja. Gow Circle, where traffic snarls have now become a daily occurrence. I request that MCC clear the illegal occupation of footpaths and restore safe access to road users before a serious accident occurs.
