Clear footpath till how long?

Sir,

I would like to sincerely thank the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) and its officials for the recent drive to clear footpath encroachments across the city.

For years, pedestrians in almost all areas of the city and other busy localities were forced to walk on the roads because shops, boards and vendors blocked footpaths.

After the recent clearance, it is a relief to see footpaths open and safe again, especially for senior citizens, ladies, students and people with disabilities.

This is a welcome step and has improved public safety and reduced traffic congestion. But the key question is: for how long will this be effective? We have seen such drives in the past where footpaths get re-encroached within weeks. This should not become a mockery of the drive.

To make this initiative long-lasting, MCC must put in place regular inspections, strict penalties for violators and a public complaint helpline. Without continued monitoring, the purpose of this drive will be lost.

I once again thank MCC for this effort and urge the authorities to ensure that Mysuru remains truly pedestrian-friendly.
