CM agrees to change GTD’s Higher Education portfolio

Mysuru: Higher Education Minister G.T. Devegowda will get a different portfolio and as a bonus, he is likely to be appointed as the District In-charge Minister, the mantle which he is likely to take over from the earlier all-powerful District Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa during Siddharamaiah regime.

After the initial sulking soon after he was allocated the Higher Education portfolio, the miffed G.T. Devegowda (GTD) remained incommunicado and left his Vijayanagar First Stage residence in city to an undisclosed resort in Kodagu.

Even his followers protested over the allocated portfolio and now to placate him, Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy has agreed to change his Higher Education portfolio.

Last night, GTD met Kumaraswamy at the Infosys Guest House at Hebbal in city where  the latter had come to see his son Nikhil Kumaraswamy shooting a movie.

At the dinner meeting, the CM apparently told GTD that he would change his Higher Education portfolio.

Speaking to Star of Mysore this morning, GTD said, “I met CM Kumaraswamy at the dinner table and he told me that he had allocated Higher Education to me as it was a good portfolio and a lot of good work could be done there. He told me that since I am unhappy with the responsibility, he (CM) was ready to make a change,” he said.

GTD further said that the CM is likely to appoint him as the Mysuru District Minister. “We discussed that too and I am happy that Kumaraswamy has honoured my sentiments. I am on my way to Bengaluru and will meet JD(S) supremo H.D. Deve Gowda at his Padmanabhanagar residence this evening and seek his blessings,” GTD said.

After spending two days in Mysuru, CM Kumaraswamy left to Bengaluru this morning.

Sources said that GTD and the CM were in the same convoy.
