Mysuru: Chief Minister Siddharamaiah inaugurated a Housing Complex built by the Karnataka Slum Clearance Board (KSCB) under JnNURM scheme at Ekalavyanagar here yesterday.
Speaking after distributing sanction letters to the beneficiaries, Siddharamaiah said that the KSCB has constructed three G plus Housing Complex at Ekalavyanagar near Metagalli for nomadic communities such as Hakki-Pikki, Sillekyatha, Dombidasa, Kole Basava etc.,
Pointing out that the Housing Complex has been constructed at a cost of Rs.50 crore, the CM said the Housing Complex had all civic amenities. Continuing, Siddharamaiah said that he has directed the authorities to allot one acre land for construction of a Samudaya Bhavan for the welfare of the residents.
KSCB Chairman R.V. Devaraj said that CM Siddharamaiah has given approval to the KSCB for construction of 30,000 more houses to the urban poor.
Earlier, when the CM was delivering his speech, he recalled his younger days, when he used to watch plays in Siddaramanahundi in which nomadic tribal people use to perform by erecting tents and watch the play ‘Sathyavan Savithri’. The CM questioned Ekalavyanagar residents whether the woman who used to play the role of ‘Savithri’ in the play was still alive.
The Ekalavyanagar residents replied that the woman’s name is Muniyamma and was very much alive. KPCC Secretary Dr. Nagalakshmi then brought Muniyamma on to the stage.
CM Siddharamaiah is sharing his memory with artiste Muniyamma, who used to play the role of ‘Savithri’ in ‘Sathyavan Savithri’ drama here yesterday, as KPCC Secretary Dr. Nagalakshmi and others look on.
The CM questioned Muniyamma whether she knew him, to which Muniyamma replied that it was he (CM) who gave the house, sanctioned her BPL card and Old age Pension to her. Muniyamma was honoured with a shawl on the occasion, during which the CM gave her Rs. 500 and District Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa Rs. 1000 as monetary help.
In another incident when Siddharamaiah was delivering his speech, some among the audience, most of whom were from Ekalavyanagar, shouted that they had voted for him (CM) and they would continued to vote for him in future elections too. The CM after taking note of this, asked a woman among the gathering who was seated in the front row to tone down her volume, saying that MLA G.T. Devegowda (GTD) may get angry.
G.T. Devegowda who presided, asked the officials to ensure that houses are allotted to Ekalavyanagar beneficiaries alone who were dropped from the list of beneficiaries. GTD also demanded Cauvery water to Ekalavyanagar residents and setting up of a library and a fair price shop in the Ekalavyanagar JnNURM residential complex that has 1,040 houses.
Pointing out about 200 houses were vacant in the newly built residential complex, the MLA insisted that these vacant houses should not be allotted to beneficiaries of other localities but distribute the houses to those beneficiaries who have been dropped from the list.
Ministers Dr.H.C. Mahadevappa and M. Krishnappa, Dr. Yathindra Siddharamaiah, KPCC Secretary Dr. Nagalakshmi, and others were present.
