Mysuru: Chief Minister Siddharamaiah will unveil the white Marble statue of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, the first in the country, installed at the circle in Ramakrishnanagar on Mar.5 in the evening.

The life-size statue of the mystic from Calcutta was sculpted by well-known Mysuru’s sculptor Arun Yogiraj at a cost of Rs. 45 lakh.

The white marble weighing 45 tons was imported from Jaipur and the weight came down to 12.5 tons after the work on the statue was completed.

Arun worked on the white marble stone kept near Lobos in Saraswathipuram.

The pedestal is two feet in height and the statue of Ramakrishna in a meditative pose is eight feet high. Mysuru, the cultural and heritage city has the distinction of being the first place in the country to install the statue of the Paramahamsa.

Earlier, the Ramakrishnanagar Circle was given a facelift on the lines of K.R. Circle, with even the domes resembling the one at the circle in the city, by spending Rs.3.72 crore. However, it may be recalled that the public had expressed their displeasure as the circle was looking bare with no statue installed.

In the light of this, the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) decided to install the statue of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, the revered mystic and guru to Swami Vivekananda.

But even after the completion of the work on the statue and it being installed at the circle, it was not unveiled. It was lying covered in white cloth for months.

Finally the MUDA Under Secretary Nagaraj has given approval (Govt. Order No: NAE 338, MyPRA 2017 dated 23-02-2018) to unveil the statute. MUDA Assistant Executive Engineer T.K. Ravi and Assistant Engineer   Balachander have played a major role in developing the circle so beautifully.

MUDA current Chairman D. Dhruvakumar, former Chairman K.R. Mohan Kumar, MUDA current Commissioner P.S. Kantharaju, former Commissioners P.C. Jayanna, Dr. C.G. Betsurmath, and S.Palaiah have all with their far-sightedness, responsible   for one of the eye-catching circles in city. Corporator M.K. Shankar, MUDA Superintending  Engineer (SE) Suresh Babu, former SEs Mahesh, Shivakumar and Executive Engineer Prabhakar have all been instrumental in the development of the circle.
