CNC holds Delhi Chalo for Kodagu autonomy status

New Delhi:  The Codava National Council (CNC) which has been peacefully agitating for Kodagu autonomy status in New Delhi on Nov. 1 every year since 1994, has this year extended the agitation to outside the French Embassy.

They held a protest yesterday at Sansad Marg (Parliament Street) and French Embassy in New Delhi to highlight the demand for autonomy and to express opposition to celebrations of Karnataka Rajyotsava Day since it was on this day, Kodava homeland, the then Part C State of India became part and parcel of Mysore State now Karnataka under State Re-organization Act, 1956.

To stage the protest in New Delhi, CNC members flew to the national capital and staged a day-long peaceful protest. Shouting slogans, they demanded immediate autonomy that will help Kodava community to safeguard their vanishing culture and customs.

Demanding a Codava Autonomous Region and Union territory status for Kodagu (Coorg) district, the CNC, led by its President, N.U. Nachappa, has since 1994 been coming to New Delhi on Nov. 1, with groups of Kodavas to hold a peaceful rally.

The CNC protested outside the French Embassy because of alleged support of the French to Tipu Sultan. On Dec. 13, 1785, about 60,000 unarmed Kodavas were allegedly massacred ruthlessly by Tipu Sultan’s army at Devatt Parambu. The CNC wants the French Government to tender an official apology for supporting Tipu Sultan.
