‘Co-operation of people vital to eradicate child labour’

World Day Against Child Labour observed

Mysuru: Marking World Day Against Child Labour, District Administration, Department of Labour, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) and other organisations held a programme at Institution of Engineers on JLB Road, here this morning.

Inaugurating the programme, DLSA Chairman S.K. Vantigodi bemoaned that child labour was still existing in society and sought the co-operation of people to eradicate the evil system. He attributed child labour to poverty and low wages paid for children.

Presiding over the programme, Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G. Sankar opined that parents should compulsorily send their children to school which would help to eradicate child labour. He observed that the Child Labour Act was not being totally implemented coupled with non-cooperation of parents of employed children.

Assistant Labour Commissioner A.C. Thammanna DLSA Member-Secretary B.P. Devamane, Bar Association President Anand Kumar and others were present.
