State-level workshop for heads of Co-operative Societies
Mysuru: Karnataka State Co-operative Federation (KSCF), Karnataka State Credit Co-operative Societies Federation (KSCCSF), Mysuru District Co-operative Union (MDCU) and Department of Co-operation, together had organised a State-level Training Workshop for Presidents and CEOs of Co-operative Societies on ‘Overall development of Credit Co-operative Societies’ at a private hotel in city on Wednesday.
Inaugurating the workshop, KSCF President N. Ganganna opined that Co-operative sector was not just meant for making profit but should also strive for progress of the society by instilling trust among the depositors.
He pointed out that 42,000 Co-operative Societies and 4,200 Credit Co-operative Societies were functioning in the State involving 2.5 crore people in the Co-operative Movement and added that thousands of crores of rupees was being reaped as profit.
He suggested Co-operative Banks to promptly pay agreed interest to depositors and close the accounts whenever desired by the customers.
He pointed out that Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and Government would come to the rescue of losing Nationalised Banks but Co-operative Banks should function carefully with able Management and CEOs.
Continuing, Ganganna said that new rules like GST and amendments keep coming for Co-operative Societies which should be properly understood and implemented without giving room for any doubt.
He pointed out that Co-operative sector was doing a noble job helping the middle class and farming community.
KSCF Managing Director S.N. Arun Kumar delivered the keynote address and said that certain regulations imposed on Nationalised Banks may not be applicable to Co-operative Banks which appears beneficial but needs careful handling.
He asked Co-operative Banks not to open branches indiscriminately without a planned disciplined scheme.

KSCCF Directors P.K. Jayakrishna, Chittaranjan Bolar, MDCU President H.V. Rajeev, Joint Registrar of Co-operative Societies B.R. Lingaraj, Deputy Registrar Dr. G. Umesh and others were present on the occasion.
