CogNIEscience 2018 paper presentation contest held

Mysuru: A National level technical paper presentation contest ‘CogNIEscience 2018’ was organised by the Department of Mechanical Engineering, National Institute of Engineering (NIE) in city recently.

Mahesh Jambardi, Chief Operating Officer (COO), Excelsoft Technologies Pvt. Ltd., inaugurated the event.

Speaking on the occasion, he conveyed the importance of research in cultivating networking skills by attending conferences and thereby attaining the skills to link several streams of engineering to make a product work.

He advised students to learn programming languages from other branches of engineering to be industry ready and explore engineering to their full potential.

He also explained how 4th Industrial Revolution will transpire with the help of sensors, Nano-technology, biotechnology and their connectivity through internet.  He later released the CD of CogNIEscience 2018.

G.S. Ramachandra, Secretary, NIE Managing Committee presided and emphasised the importance of such programmes which help in dissipating technical knowledge for the society.

Dr. M.V. Achutha, Professor & Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering, NIE, and Staff Convenors of the event A. Anand and H.P. Vinod Kumar were also a part of the inaugural ceremony.  

CogNIEscience 2018 attracted about 80 technical papers from engineering students all over Karnataka as well as neighbouring States. Among  these 65 papers were selected for presentation in five distinct streams, namely Automotive Engineering, Design Engineering, Thermal  Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Post Graduate stream.

The first and second prize of Rs.3,000 and 2,500 were distributed in all the streams. In order to develop the research interest in young minds and to support the Make In India mission, a special category for first year students with a theme “Innovation engineering Ideas for Make in India concept” was also introduced. The presentations were evaluated by a panel of jury members drawn from industry and academia.

At  the valedictory function held in the evening, S.L. Ramachandra, Director, NIE Board of Management, distributed cash awards to the winners.

Ujjwal Aashray and Parth Dharsandia, Students of Mechanical Engineering, NIE, Mysuru won the best technical paper award of Rs. 5,000 for their paper “Intake Manifold Design for a Formula Student Vehicle.”
