Collection of Municipal Tax: Some suggestions to MCC

The deserted MCC Zone 4 Office in Yadavagiri.

Sir,

The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) and the Government is starved of tax revenue. It should devise a simple mode for citizens to pay their house tax dues. The best mode would be through online banking. For the present, it could follow this simple procedure.

Instead of citizens waiting to fill the Self-Assessment Forms  (SAFs) under the scorching sun, it should accept xerox copy of last year’s SAF along with payment (assuming no large variation in parameters). They can directly pay through bank windows at MCC and their bank branches. This would, I presume, cover more than 90% of assessees.

MCC could easily garner large revenue as citizens (particularly seniors) would be spared of the agony of standing in queue twice. If there is any large variation, MCC can ask for rectification later.

MCC can also ask their Revenue Inspectors to accept payments at the doorstep of willing citizens.

I hope the Commissioner, MCC, will take note of this simple solution and direct all the Zonal Offices to implement it. A helpline number of Zonal Office for tax payment should be set up and publicised.
