Training camp begins at eight Colleges across district
Mysuru: In an effort to bring students close to the theatre and to create awareness on social responsibility, Rangayana inaugurated its annual month-long theatre training camp on Aug. 21.
Rangayana artistes will be visiting the selected eight Colleges across the District and conduct theatre classes for a month after which the students will stage plays during the eight-day B.V. Karanth College Rangothsava from Sept. 22 at Bhoomigeeta.
Rangayana Director Bhagirathi Bai Kadam released the poster of this year’s College Rangothsava at Rangayana.
Speaking on the occasion, she said that for the first time Rangayana had opened its doors to the students of flood- hit Kodagu and Mandya districts.
This year, a total of eight Colleges would be taking part in the festival. Rangayana has assigned two young Directors to each Colleges who would be visiting the College every day to train the students in theatre and related activities.
B.V. Karanth College Rangothsava was started 17 years back by the then Rangayana Director Chidambara Rao Jambe to mark Karanth’s birth anniversary. Till date a total of 120 plays have been staged and all of them have been directed either by Senior Rangayana artistes, Bharatiya Ranga Shikshana Kendra or Sanchara (Touring) Rangayana artistes.
The programme has also been a platform for the young and new talents to express themselves on stage. Many have gone on to peruse theatre even after college.
