College student drowned in Varuna Canal

Mysore/Mysuru: An 18-year-old student of a private college in city, who had gone for a swim in Varuna Canal on Pipeline Road in Belagola village yesterday, has drowned and his body is yet to be traced.

The deceased student is Jagat Appanna, son of Vasu Uttaiah of Cherambane village near Madikeri, Kodagu, who was pursuing his B.Com course at a private college and was residing in the hostel.

Yesterday, Jagat and his friends went to the canal for a swim. On seeing his friends swimming in the canal, Jagat jumped into the canal, but went missing in the canal after some time.

His friends began to scream for help and a few people, who were working in the agricultural field nearby, rushed to the canal and despite searching for Jagat, they were unable to trace him.

KRS Police, who rushed to the spot, summoned Fire and Emergency Services personnel and despite launching a search, they were unable to trace the body of Jagat.

Fire staff said that they would launch a search operation today.
