Mysuru: Kannada Book Authority and Kannada Literary Forum of Nataraja Women’s Residential First Grade College, had organised an interaction with book publisher at the college premises here recently.
The students volleyed a series of questions on eligibility to become a publisher, remunerative aspects of becoming a writer/publisher, definition of plagiarism and so on. U.S. Mahesh of Rupa Publishers gave a patient hearing to the questions and answered them in simple terms.
Mahesh said that a publisher brings out a literary item be it in the form of a story, poem, essay or research in a printed book form and the number of copies printed is based on demand.
He pointed out that publishing job was a highly respected one in the society and added that anyone with good talent and hard work can become a publisher.
He further said that a good association with writers would be beneficial. He contended that there was no proper and concrete method to check rampant plagiarism.
Mahesh opined that to become a writer one should be an avid reader with a flair for literature. He said that to translate a book to another language prior permission is necessary from the original writer.
College Vice-Principal G. Prasad Murthy presided. The college faculty and students interacted with the publisher.
