Colourful procession marks Mahaveer Jayanti

Jain Youth Association distributes food to about 8,000 people  

Mysuru: Marking the 2,618th jayanti of Bhagawan Mahaveer, a colourful procession was organised in city this morning under the aegis of Sri Digambar Jain Samaj in association with Mahaveer Mandali, Sameeksha Milan and Mahaveer Seva Sangha.

About 1,000 members of the community participated in the procession. A goods auto with the statue of Bhagawan Mahaveer placed atop it led the procession followed by another vehicle with the decorated statue of Bhagawan Mahaveer placed in a silver palanquin.

The procession, which commenced from M.L. Jain Boarding Home on Chandragupta Road, passed through Gandhi Square, Ashoka Road, Nehru Circle, Irwin Road, Halladakeri and culminated at the starting point. Later, the statue was worshipped with sugarcane juice, milk, ‘Kalka Churna,’ turmeric, sandal paste, ‘Kashaya’ and flowers. At 7 pm today, a function has been organised at M.L. Varadhamanaiah Memorial Hall where Writer and former History Professor N. Venkoba Rao would be felicitated.

Renowned Kannada film Music Director Hamsalekha would be present. Sri Bhuvanakeerthi Bhattaraka Swamiji of Kanakagiri will grace the occasion.

Meanwhile, members of Sthanakvasi Jain Yuva Sanghatan, distributed food to about 8,000 people at Pancha Mukhi Temple in Mandi Mohalla, on Ashoka Road, K.R. Hospital premises, Shivarampet and Roti Bank, from 11.30 am onwards.
