Colourful procession with huge crowds mark mass immersion of Ganesha idols

Mysuru:  Mysuru Nagara Samoohika Vinayaka Visarjana Mandali had organised mass immersion of Ganesha idols yesterday. More than 100 Ganesha idols installed at various places across the city took part in rituals. A number of organisations including Mayura Yuvakara Balaga, Jai Bhajarangi Yuva Sene, Tibbadevi Yuvakara Sangha, Sri Dwidanta Geleyara Balaga took part in the grand procession and idols were taken for immersion which started from Viranagere Vidyaganapathi Temple on Ashoka Road.

A number of decorated vehicles carrying Ganesha idols amidst beating of drums accompanied by a host of folk troupes passed through Ashoka Road to reach Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple from where they continued their journey through D. Devaraj Urs Road and JLB Road to reach Sai Baba Temple in Srirangapatna, where the idols were immersed in Kaveri river.

Thousands of people including children holding saffron flags took part in the grand procession chanting slogans and songs all along the streets well decorated for the occasion. Vehicles carrying Ganesha idols installed at various parts of the city also carried portraits of various freedom fighters including Bhagat Singh, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, B.R. Ambedkar, Chhatrapati Shivaji etc., along with banners calling for cleanliness, importance of Kannada, environmental and road safety awareness.

In view of large number of people participating in the procession, City Police headed by Police Commissioner K.T. Balakrishna had made elaborate security arrangements with tight Police bandobast.

Speaking on the occasion, Hindu Jagarana Vedike State Sanchalak Keshavamurthy said that Shivaji and Bal Gangadhar Tilak had called for widespread Ganesha Chaturthi celebrations in order to create patriotic fervour among the citizens.

MLA S.A. Ramadas and L. Nagendra, former Mayor Sandesh Swamy, Corporator Satwik Sandesh Swamy and others were present.
